Sudan
A long term partnership, initially in 2004 with another UK NGO, now exclusively with the influential civil society partner, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Sudan, headed by Bishop Elias Taban. The Partnership has enabled EPC to build, equip and staff a 50 bed Health Centre in an area of South Sudan with virtually no healthcare facility within a 20 mile radius.
The Out Patient Department was launched in 2007 and in June 2010, the first In Patient facility was dedicated.

Goli Hospital
GOLI HOSPITAL, Southern Sudan has welcomed its first patients to the recently dedicated In-Patient Department. The Hospital, funded primarily by UK charity Medic Assist International and implemented by local partners, Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Sudan, was officially dedicated on Saturday 5th June 2010. Monday 5th July 2010 saw the first patients being admitted.
10,000 people with access to healthcare for the first time
Sudan has emerged recently from 40 years of civil war, largely around issues of religious freedom and access to natural resources.
Southern Sudan has almost no infrastructre that can be relied on. There are almost no tarmac roads; schools and hospitals are inadequate for the population, swollen by returnees. There is estimated to be 1 doctor for every 100,000 people in the South and maternal and infant mortality are among the worst in the world.
Our Partner, EPC, is working to be a major part of the development that is essential as the country heads towards a referendum on whether to become an independant nation in the South. EPC has established projects for employment, women's empowerment, orphans, education and training as well as healthcare.
The Mundu people of Goli are superstitious and rely on traditional healers. Bishop Taban received permission to build and farm in this community. Our Partnership is delivering a 50 bed Health Centre.
Watch the video of what this means to the Goli community.
In April 2007, the Out Patient Department was opened and has since been funded by MAI and recieved MAI volunteers. Hundreds of patients each month find help that would otherwise not be available.
The In Patient facilities are nearing completion and will provide excellent facilities, including an operating theatre and a maternity ward.
