MAI LOOK AT TWO NEW PROJECTS
In the past month, MAI Board members have been busy evaluating two new projects for potential support.
Colonel Emil Jeevaratnam, an army medic, visited the Navajeevana health project in Sri Lanka. This has three main activities; one is a clinic that treats the poorest people for free while charging reasonable rates for the better off; one is a health education and treatment for a community in the east that was badly affected by the tsunami in 2004; and the thrid is a programme to support those who were affected by the ethnic fighting in the north. Emil's report will be considered by the Board in October.
Dr John Gilbert stopped off en route to Sudan in Uganda. He visited a remote rural community where HIV/Aids is a significant issue and a group called FADO-T is the only group providing palliative care. John was able to provide encouragement and some simple guidance to the team working on this project. We await their final proposals and again this will be considered by the MAI Board in October.
