MAI BOARD MEMBER WITNESSES BIRTH OF NEW NATION
Dr John Gilbert, a MAI Board member flew into Yei recently and was rushed from the airfield to Freedom Square to join the celebrations marking the independence of South Sudan on 9 July.
John spent 5 days at the MAI funded EPC Health Centre at Goli. Besides serving in the Out Patient and In Patient Departments, his primary focus was on assessing and providing for the training needs of the staff. Already the Hospital Administrator has seen marked improvements in nurse performance. John also worked with the staff to provide some basic instruction for the local community.
During his stay, the In Patient beds were full occupied. In the second quarter of 2011, 140 patients were successfully treated by the In Patient Department and these numbers look set to increase.
Berta was one of those patients who came ot the hospital after days of non-stop vomiting. Her mother had been to the hospital previously and persuaded her to attend. within three days, Berta was discharged completely well. During her stay she said: “My mama was right, the people here have really looked after me, they are very kind. I thought I would have to just stay at home and hope I got better but this hospital has given me treatment and I am starting to feel better already.”
