MEDIC ASSIST

INTERNATIONAL

Medic Assist International is passionate about building capacity in healthcare systems among peoples suffering persecution, oppression or poverty.

We work in such situations with civil society partners that we have come to know and trust.  They are indigenous professionals who understand local healthcare needs.  We do not set up our own programmes or organisation in these countries.  We work to empower indigenous people to create realistic but essential enhancements of healthcare capacity.

Our Aims

  • To save lives through health education and medical interventions

  • To empower local people in developing their own healthcare systems

We work in some of the world’s poorly publicised but desperately needy places. We mobilise and share resources: equipment, finance and people from the UK.

Our Volunteers

We help our Partners in part through volunteers who give up to two weeks at a time, sometimes once a year, sometimes more frequently.  If you are a UK healthcare professional or micro-enterprise developer and would like to become a MAI volunteer, please contact us via the contact page.

Full Time Director appointed

John Earwicker, pictured above, will be the first full time Executive Director of Medic Assist International, commencing September 1st.  Previously, John was working for MAI as an independent consultant.

Eddie Lyle, Chairperson of MAI, says: "We see this as an essential next step in taking the charity to another level.  In the present economic climate, it is a high risk but our Board is convinced that John is the right person to take us forward at this time."

An MAI Commissioning event will be held on 16 November at 18.30 in Christ Church, Abingdon.  MAI supporters are invited to attend.

Doctors for Sudan from Germany

Matthias and Constanze Rossow have arrived in Yei, South Sudan.  They are both qualified doctors and are leading the healthcare teams of EPC that MAI funds at present.

They have three young children: Deborah, Jonathan and Benjamin.  For the first year, Constanze will not be working in healthcare but establishing the family.  Thereafter, she hopes to join Matthias.

Supported by the German Government through CFI, Stuttgart, they hope to be based at the Goli Health Centre but are awaiting the completion of a house at Goli.

At present, Dr Matthias is travelling to Goli from Yei twice a week and visiting the other clinics that MAI supports.  This is very frustrating for them.

Funds to build their accommodation would be welcome, with a target of £20,000.
