BARONESS COX ADDRESSES FIRST MAI DINNER
MAI recently held its inaugural invitation event at Pembroke College, Oxford. The Celebratory Dinner for South Sudan was addressed by Baroness Cox of Queensbury. Having made so many visits to Sudan over many years, she spoke powerfully and passionately about the need to support the humanitarian crisis, development needs and a negotiated peaceful transition.
40 guests were treated to a wonderful evening of fine food and wine in the elegant surroundings of Pembroke College. Baroness Cox illustrated her after dinner talk with moving images of the earlier conflict in Sudan while MAI showed video of the opening of Goli Hospital's first beds and told the stories of some of the clients whose lives are being transformed by EPC's work.
Sadly, the current security situation in South Sudan meant that Bishop Taban, senior leader of EPC, was unable to attend. It is planned that he visits the UK in the autumn.
