100th ANTENATAL CARE PATIENT AT GOLI!
Esther Edya - pictured proudly displaying her record card - was the 100th woman to receive antenatal care at Goli Hospital in South Sudan recently.
Esther lives a mile from the Centre and is 6 months pregnant. She heard about antenatal care through the Hospital's Community Health Worker.
She told us: "I had my first child before the Hospital at Goli was open. I never received antenatal care because it was too far to travel to the nearest Hospital. I nearly lost the baby making the journey to Yei for delivery. That child later died because we did not have good healthcare near to home. Now Goli Hospital is here, I have been coming to see the midwife and getting the medicine to help the baby. The Hospital will save me from suffering like I did before."
Esther is also receiving Intermittent Preventative Treatment from the pharmacy funded by generous MAI supporters. This will protect her baby from the effects of malaria should Esther contract it duiring her prgnancy.
